Shenandoah Valley Art Center presents 40 Under 40
The exhibit presents eighty curated pieces of art from an open artist call by invitation of the SVAC Exhibit Committee to Virginia artists less than 40 years of age. The artwork presented in the exhibit includes sculpture, mixed media, photography and paintings, among others. Many of the works push the envelope and are not traditional in subject, method, or process. Some of the artists are formally educated and some are self-taught, with a great range of talent, skill, and ability represented. Local artists presented in the exhibit: Emily Allred, Virginia Ashby, Troy Argenbright, C.B. Bellerose, Leo Charre, Jordan Coiner, Brecken Geiman, Dell Brown Hall, Tammy Hornek, David Hughes, Cheryl Elliott, Pat Jarrett, Steve Kizer, Ivan Pesic, Hannah Scott, Kelly Sheridan, Craig Snodgrass, Scott Wiecek, Kenneth Wilfong, and Wendy Wooten, to list a few. An Opening Reception will be held March 8, 6:00-8:00 p.m. and the public is encouraged to come and meet the artists.
In the Upstairs Hallway Gallery, a tribute to art education features an exhibition of artwork by Waynesboro Public Schools art students. The exhibit celebrates Youth Art Month, a national initiative promoting art and art education for kids. Exhibiting artwork in a professional gallery is an important experience for the exposure of young artists to the world of art. The Members’ Gallery will present “Words and Altered Books.” A selection of creatively altered books by member artists will add a provocative perspective to the gallery experience. Check out a new exhibition of work in the Docent Room.
