svacThe Shenandoah Valley Art Center, during the month of March, is featuring, 40 Under 40. In 2013 the art center is highlighting many young and emerging artists in the Invitational Gallery.

This exhibit presents forty curated pieces of art from an open artist call by invitation of the SVAC Exhibit Committee to artists less than 40 years of age.  The artwork presented in the exhibit includes sculpture, mixed media, photography and paintings, among others.  Many of the works push the envelope and are not traditional in subject, method, or process.  Some of the artists are formally educated and some are self-taught, with a great range of talent, skill, and ability represented.

The art center is pleased to present the works of Josh Smith, Emily Allred, Delmon Brown Hall IV, Johnathon Blake, Rachael Carroll, Pat Jarrett, Angus Carter, Kenneth Lecky, Andrew Davis, Kaleb Gay, Tammy Hornek, David Hughes, Kat Kiernan, Kurt Kindermann, Steve Kizer, Whitney Knapp, Bert Lanman, Hannah Scott, Kelley Sheridan, Jessica Smith, Craig Snodgrass, Piper Groves, Brandi Thompson, and Karen Tucker.

An Opening Reception will be held March 7, 5:00-7:00pm and the public is encouraged to come and meet the artists.

In the Upstairs Hallway Gallery, a tribute to art education features an exhibition of artwork by Waynesboro Public Schools art students.  The exhibit celebrates Youth Art Month, a national initiative promoting art and art education for kids.  Exhibiting artwork in a professional gallery is an important experience for the exposure of young artists to the world of art.   The Members Gallery will present work of the “Artist’s Choice.”  A selection of never-seen pieces by the member artists will add a provocative perspective to the gallery experience.  Do not miss the photographs of photographer, Emily Allred, being exhibited in the Docent Room.
