Shenandoah National Park advises hikers of limited parking in the Whiteoak Canyon boundary area

ShenandoahLogo_Outlined_Black_VerticalShenandoah National Park officials are advising hikers of limited parking  in the Whiteoak and Cedar Run boundary areas of the Park.  Last week, the Park received upwards of 16 inches of rain.

This caused significant run-off in and around drainage areas impacting the bridge to the upper Whiteoak parking lot.  Until the water recedes, the Park will not be able to assess the bridge for damage.  The Park has therefore closed the bridge to vehicle traffic.  Pedestrian traffic is still permitted.  The lower Whiteoak and Cedar Run trails can still be accessed by foot from the lower parking area, however, space is very limited and there is currently no additional parking.  Parking along Berry Hollow road (route 600) is not allowed.

This closure is in effect until further notice and only affects the Whiteoak Canyon parking lot (off Berry Hollow road/Route 600).  The Whiteoak and Cedar Run trails can also be accessed by their respective trail-heads on Skyline Drive at mile 43 (Whiteoak) and mile 45.5 (Cedar Run).

Before departing for the Park, check for weather updates and check with the Park via Facebook, Twitter feeds, or the Park’s webpage (www.nps.gov/shen) for current conditions.  For general information, call 540-999-3500
