Second-half blitz pushes VCU past Wichita State

vcu men's basketballRedshirt junior forward Issac Vann poured in a game-high 18 points, and VCU opened up the second half on a 16-0 run on the way to a 70-54 win over Wichita State Saturday.

Junior guard Marcus Evans supplied 15 points, five assists and three rebounds in 30 minutes of action for VCU, while sophomore forward Marcus Santos-Silva provided 10 points, five rebounds and three blocks.

VCU junior guard De’Riante Jenkins added 15 points on 6-of-15 shooting in addition to a team-high six rebounds in 27 minutes.

Forward Markis McDuffie led the Shockers with 16 points on 5-of-15 shooting.

The Rams started the second half hot, after a Santos-Silva layup sparked a 16-0 run that put VCU on top 53-34 with 12 minutes remaining in the second half. The Shockers never seriously threatened again.

VCU held Wichita State without a point for the first 7:50 of the second half.
