SDDA launches campaign to raise $12,000 to complete Beverley Street lighting project
Due to the generosity of the Downtown Staunton community and an in-kind donation from the City of Staunton Public Works Department, the SDDA was able to implement to first phase of the project by retrofitting 22 fixtures on Beverley Street with 36-watt LED bulbs reducing utility costs by 60 percent.
The donations funded replacement globes with cut-off caps that direct 10,926 lumens downward, reducing shadows at street level as well as light pollution in the night sky. The upgraded lighting creates an even, soft light on Beverley Street making it more night-friendly and creating a safer environment for visitors and guests.
The SDDA will be raising an additional $12,000 to complete the lighting upgrade on the remaining 14 fixtures located on the connecting side streets including Central Avenue, Augusta Street, New Street and Market Street.
All donations are deeply appreciated.
