nationals_logoFormer Valley League star Cory Spangenberg hit a pair of solo homers to lead the San Diego Padres to an 8-3 win over the Washington Nationals late Thursday night.

The start of the game was delayed more than two hours by rain in the San Diego area, and the game ended just before 3 a.m. Eastern Time Friday morning.

Doug Fister (2-2) was rocked for seven runs on eight hits in two innings of work for the Nats, who trailed 7-0 after two and were never really in the game thereafter.

Tyson Ross (2-3) got the win for the Padres, giving up two runs on five hits in five innings of work, striking out six and walking three.
