Sabato: Fifth District Congressman Robert Hurt to retire

Robert_HurtUVA politics professor Larry Sabato tweeted Tuesday that Fifth District Republican Congressman Robert Hurt will be retiring from Congress.

According to Sabato, Hurt will announce his retirement on Wednesday.

Jane Dittmar, a member of the Albemarle County Board of Supervisors, has already announced her candidacy for the Democratic nomination.

According to Sabato, possible Republican candidates in the Fifth include Charlie Hurt, Robert’s brother, and State Sen. Bill Stanley.
