Orioles improve AL wild-card status

baltimore oriolesHyun Soo Kim hit a two-run homer in the second, and Dylan Bundy and the Baltimore Orioles bullpen made it hold up in a 2-1 O’s win over Arizona on Sunday.

The W puts the Orioles (85-71) a game and a half up on the field for the second AL wild-card spot.

Manny Machado (.301/.352/.545, 36 HR, 94 RBI) had two of Baltimore’s five hits.

Bundy (10-6, 4.02 ERA, 1.38 WHIP) gave up a run on three hits in five innings, striking out five and walking one.

Zach Britton (46 saves, 0.56 ERA, 0.84 WHIP) got the save.

Washington won a wild game on Sunday in Pittsburgh, taking a 10-7 result on an afternoon that featured a benches-clearing incident.

Bryce Harper left the game in the third after being forced into an awkward slide by Bucs third baseman Jung Ho Kang after a leadoff triple. Nats starter A.J. Cole threw a fastball behind Kang in his at bat in the bottom of the third, and was promptly ejected from the game.

Washington, which clinched the NL East Saturday night, used nine pitchers on Sunday, with Shawn Kelley (3-2, 2.73 ERA, 0.91 WHIP) credited with the win.

Closer Mark Melancon (43 saves, 1.74 ERA, 0.94 WHIP) got the save against his former team.

Jayson Werth (.250/.338/.429, 21 HR, 70 RBI) had a pinch-hit two-run homer.
