Rockbridge County: Route 631 closed April 3-4 for railroad crossing repairs

transportation road workPart of Route 631 (Old Buena Vista Road) in Rockbridge County is scheduled to be closed from 7 a.m. Wednesday, April 3, through 7 p.m. Thursday, April 4.

This closure is for repairs to the Norfolk Southern Railway crossing between Route 608 (South River Road) and Route 704 (Middle Road). All work is weather permitting.

Residents and business owners on Route 631 will have access to properties on either side of the work zone. Signs will guide through traffic on the following detours:

  • Eastbound traffic will go south on Route 11 (Lee Highway), east on Route 60 (Midland Trail/29th Street), and north on Catalpa Avenue which becomes Route 631 at the Buena Vista city limits.
  • Westbound traffic will go south on Route 631/Catalpa Avenue, west on Route 60 and north on Route 11 to return to Route 631.

The Route 631 railroad crossing is just east of Mountain View Elementary School, but classes are not scheduled during the week of April 1-5.
