Richard Adams to present horn recital at Bridgewater College
The recital, “The Man of Many Horns,” features Adams performing on the tuba, euphonium, trombone, trumpet, flugelhorn and saxophone, as well as on the guitar.
The program will feature “Allegré” from Toot Suite by Claude Bolling, “Simple Gifts” by Elder Joseph Brackett Jr., arranged by Thomas Kikta and “Stardust” by Hoagy Carmichael, arranged by Adams and William Hayes.
The recital will also feature the following Bridgewater College students: Terrance Chambers, a senior business administration major, fromKing William, Va.; Adam Kelly, a junior music major, from Salem, Va.; Aaron Lavinder, a senior music major, from Glade Hill, Va.; Phillip Stone, a senior biology major, from Linville, Va.; and Jonathon Wilson, a senior music major, from Salem, Va.
Members of the local community who will join Adams include, John Dull, a 2004 BC graduate, Jim Harrington, William Hayes, Buddy Thomas and Chris Wray.
Adams has been an adjunct instructor of music at Bridgewater College since 1994. While at BC, he has taught guitar, bass trumpet, euphonium, tuba and trombone. He also has directed guitar, trombone and tuba ensembles. He freelances as a performer and studio musician.
He has been commissioned to write and compose three historical musicals, as well as many instrumental and choral works.
He received a Dawbarn Education Award from the Community Foundation of the Central Blue Ridge for going “beyond the requirements of the job to successfully inspire, encourage and foster learning in young people in the public schools of Staunton, Waynesboro and Augusta County.”
He earned B.M.E. and M.Ed. degrees from James Madison University.
The concert is free and open to the public.
Bridgewater College is a private, four-year liberal arts college located in the Central Shenandoah Valley of Virginia. Founded in 1880, it was the state’s first private, coeducational college. Today, Bridgewater College is home to more than 1,800 undergraduate students.
