waynesboro“Reveling in the Magnificence of Trees” is the theme of this year’s Waynesboro Tree Care Workshop – the 20th annual gathering of hundreds of Virginians who are interested in the health and vitality of these largest of living things in our communities – that will take place Sept. 18th at the Best Western Inn & Conference Center.

The all-day event, which is sponsored by Waynesboro Parks & Recreation, Trees Virginia and the Virginia Department of Forestry, features two tracks – one for people interested in everything trees and one for those interested in the work of professional arborists.  General sessions include topics such as: “Trees and Turf: An Antagonistic Relationship;” “Climate Changing Our Landscapes – Believe It or Else!” “Root Explosion! Missouri Gravel Beds;” “Lichens 101;” “American Chestnut – Bringing Back a Mighty Giant;” “A Closer Look at Soils,” and “Reveling in the Magnificence of Trees.”  Those interested in the arborist track will spend the day learning climbing and cutting’s latest innovative techniques from Mr. Rip Tompkins, safety trainer and educator with ArborMaster Training Inc.

“We have quite a distinguished group of presenters this year,” said Paul Revell, urban and community forestry coordinator at the Virginia Department of Forestry.  “I encourage everyone who is interested in attending to register as soon as possible because last year’s workshop was standing room only.”

There are three levels of early registration (deadline August 28): General is $85; Municipal or Nonprofit is $75, and Student/Tree Steward/Master Gardener/Master Naturalist is $55.  After August 28th, registration for all categories is $100.
