Register now for 2018-19 Arts Education Programming at Wayne Theatre

wayne theatreThe Wayne Theatre has set the schedule for its 2018-2019 Arts Education program.

The mission of the Wayne Theatre’s Art Education performance is to present the best educational theater that engages children of all ages in meaningful ways, complements school curricula, and cultivates appreciation of the performing arts. The performances give our youngest audience members the opportunity to experience live performing arts in our historic Wayne Theatre.

All of our arts programming is open to all ages and open to the public. Buses and large groups are welcome but advance tickets are required.

The Magic School Bus

When the class gets lost on the way to the planetarium, Ms. Frizzle saves the day by blasting into outer space for an epic inter-planetary field trip! But when rivalries both old and new threaten to tear the students apart, our young heroes must learn to pull together or risk getting forever lost in the solar system. Hop on The Magic School Bus for a ride in Theatreworks USA’s new musical adaptation based on the original book series published by Scholastic.

Janet’s Planet (STEAM)

Based on the educational television show that airs on 144 public television stations, fans are in for a real treat as they see the galaxy from Janet’s futuristic Mission Control.The live show challenges young minds while inspiring STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Mathematics).

A loving story of the friendship between a pig named Wilbur and a little gray spider named Charlotte. Wilbur has a problem: how to avoid winding up as pork chops! Charlotte, a fine writer and true friend, hits on a plan to fool Farmer Zuckerman she will create a “miracle.” Spinning the words “Some Pig” in her web, Charlotte weaves a solution which not only makes Wilbur a prize pig, but ensures his place on the farm forever.

Rainbow Fish

The Rainbow Fish tells the story of the most beautiful fish in the sea, whose scales shimmer in all the colors of the rainbow. He is admired by the entire underwater world, and the other fish dream of owning one of his magnificent scales. Resentment ensues when he is unwilling to give any of them away, and he becomes the loneliest fish in the ocean. Following the advice of a clever octopus, he gives each fish one of his scales. The more he shares, the happier he becomes.

The Very Hungry Caterpillar

The triple-bill includes the wonderful story of The Very Hungry Caterpillar’s metamorphosis into a beautiful butterfly; the fanciful account of Little Cloud’s travels through the sky, and the Mixed-Up Chameleon’s discovery of his own unique nature. The whimsical tales have enchanted several generations, and our adaption teaches as well.

With the trickiest of tricks, he is certainly fun to play with. And he turns a rainy afternoon into an amazing adventure. But what will Mum find when she comes home?

Buffalo Soldier

Based on the true story of our nation’s longest-surviving Buffalo Soldier and veteran of the Spanish-American War, this dramatic play with music tells the heroic story of the brave soldiers of the 9th and 10th Cavalries. Trooper Jones Morgan served in Cuba and was one of the many Buffalo Soldiers at the Battle of San Juan Hill. His story not only encompasses the experiences of the Buffalo Soldiers, but also tells that of the black soldier in Jim Crow America.
