The Harvest Moon added to the spotlight on the All-American division Saturday night at Natural Bridge Speedway, delighting fans with both ends of the All-American Twin 10-lappers. Mason Rhodes had a great run to win the first of the Twin 10s, while Jonathan Burnette, who has taken several checkers this season, took the All-American nightcap.
Ten machines roared past the green to commence the 35-lap late model feature. Ryan Adams, who started on the outside of row one, cruised to the early lead and stretched it out until he spun on lap 19, ceding the lead to Fred Bryant. Steadily moving forward from his fifth starting slot was quick qualifier Carder Miller, who had pulled to third in lap 12.
Woods’ machine blasted past Bryant to take the lead at the midway point of the 35-lapper. Miller kept pace and followed Woods past Bryant. Woods maintained a steady line and good handling to come home with the checkers. Miller finished second. Bryant was third, and Tim Stalnaker ran fourth.
But Fred Bryant caught and passed and ceded the lead to Fred Bryant’s ride, who jumped out to a nice edge until Phillip Woods, who had started third, began to reel him in. Woods took the lead on lap 25 and then was forced to ward off the late surge of quick qualifier carder Miller, who stared fifth after drawing a five pill. Woods took the checker and chased him to the finish.
Brandon Ramsey led 24 of the 25 laps in the Street Stock feature, holding off a strong challenge from local driver, Lee Herring, who ran second. Ramsey started on the outside of the front row, but had seized the lead as the fleet passed the flag and appeared to be in total control before a lap 24 caution brought the leader back to the pack for a green-white-checkers finish. It proved to be no sweat for Ramsey as he left the pack in his wake out of the restart and rolled to victory.
Area sportsman drivers found the 3/8-mile clay oval to their liking, as they finished 1-2-3inthe 25-lap sportsman feature. Roger Robertson Jr. Led the first four laps before his involvement in a turn 4 collision sent his damaged machine to the pits for the remainder of the race. Fairfield’s Samuel Bryant led his brother Aaron and Ronnie Martin Jr to the restart green. And that’s the way it remained for the final 20 circuits to Victory Lane.
The eight-car pure stock field saw James Newton, who started fourth, roll quickly to the lead and then battle the constant pressure from Brandon Link, as the feature’s 25 laps ticked by. Despite Link’s best effort, he was never able to grab the lead, and Newton took the checkered flag.
Racing continues Saturday with a regular points show at the speedway. The first green flag is scheduled to fall at 7:30 p.m.
