Press Conference: Washington Redskins quarterback Robert Griffin III

rg3Washington Redskins quarterback Robert Griffin III talks with reporters after the Redskins’ season-ending 44-17 loss to the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday.

On what wasn’t clicking for the team today:

“Offensively, we had limited possessions in the first half and in the second half, we just didn’t get in rhythm. For me and my evaluation of the game without watching the tape, those two interceptions can’t happen. It’s not what I do. We don’t turn the ball over. I’d like to have those back but I thought we had a good chance to win the game still there near the end. We just couldn’t find a way to make it happen. So yeah, not the way we wanted to end it but it’s another growing pain.”

On takeaways from this season:

“Yeah, man. It’s been a real long year. It’s been a tough year – a lot of adversity and a lot of things you can’t control but at the end of the day, we get to play this game and have an opportunity to play this game. That’s the way we approach the entire season. It didn’t go the way we wanted it to go, but every time you get an opportunity to step out there it’s a blessing. I enjoyed it. I enjoyed going out there and fighting with those guys, even in games like the one today. It’s tough when you lose a game by the final score of what we did. But like I said, it’s a blessing and you’ve got to look at it in a way that you’re going to find ways to make it happen. We’re in a problem solving business, not a ‘deal with what you got’ kind of business. We’ll figure out the problem and we’ll solve it and I definitely want to be a part of the solution.”

On improving timing between himself and the receivers:

“I mean it’s something that we’re going to continue to have to hammer in throughout the offseason –finding our identity and getting a grasp of what [Head Coach] Jay [Gruden] wants to do and wants us to be and then going forward with that full steam. We have the weapons to do it. We have the players on this roster to do it and, like I said, we’re in a problem solving business so we’ll solve that problem.”

On the evolution of his game:

“I mean, I think it’s important to know who you are as a player. I know who I am. I know what I have to get better at and that’s what I’ll focus on this offseason and, you know, keep moving forward from there. We have a chance to do something special here and I think great things are ahead here – not only for this team, but for this city and for these fans who deserve better. When you step out there on the field and there are a lot of Dallas fans out there, that’s not because our fans are just not showing up. It’s because we’re not inspiring them to be out there and that’s what we’ll do [moving forward]. That’s what my job is as quarterback – it’s to inspire and to win games and we’ll do that.”

On the things on which he has to improve:

“That’s not something I want to sit up here and talk about. My job is not to critique myself or to critique anybody, as I’ve learned. I will go back and watch the tape and have a laundry list of things I know I want to work on in the offseason and then continue to be the confident player that I know I can be. I know the other guys in that locker room will do the exact same thing. Like I said, we will fix this problem. That’s a promise. There is not anything we can say between now and next time. We have an actual live game that is going to change that. We’ve got to prove it.”

On what is next for him:

“I’m definitely going to work with Coach [Terry] Shea again, and I will definitely be around Redskins Park. I can’t technically work with [Offensive Coordinator] Sean [McVay] and [Head Coach] Jay [Gruden]. It’s a league violation, but I have that plan. It’s pretty much already set. I’ll do that. It’s not something I need to announce but we’ll be ready. I think we were ready for this year and some things happened and it didn’t go the way that we wanted it to go. That’s not something that is going to deter me or any of those guys in that locker room from coming back ready to go and being confident about what we can do.”

On if his shoulder injury affected his accuracy:

“I have to go back and watch the tape for the INT [interception] and like I said before, I’d like to have those throws back. And there’s no excuses…There’s no excuses for that kind of stuff.”

On if he has discussed plans for next season with Head Coach Jay Gruden:

“We haven’t had that discussion or cleared the air on any of that kind of stuff. My focus is I want to be here. I want to be here to help this team win, try to turn this thing around and change the culture around here. That’s my only focus. If Coach Jay and this organization wants me to be around, then I’ll be here. I’ll be ready to go. I’ll make sure that happens. I will link up with my teammates this offseason and we will go to work, that’s the only thing we can do.”
