At the halfway point of the 2015 Valley League season, the Waynesboro Generals have three home runs. As a team. For emphasis: three.
For perspective, nine individual VBL players have three or more homers at the halfway mark.
The Generals total of 28 extra-base hits in 21 games is also last in the league. Again, for perspective, the Strasburg Express has 64 extra-base hits in 21 games to lead the Valley.
The approach from coach D.J. King is on small ball, with Waynesboro tied for the league lead with 14 sacrifice hits.
More small ball: the Generals are third in the league with 64 stolen-base attempts, but also lead the VBL in getting caught stealing, with 25.
That’s 39 outs given up willingly by a team that basically is basing its offensive approach on singles, walks, hit by pitches and defensive mistakes.
Not exactly a winning approach there.
