Poll: Warner looks safe for 2014

mark-warnerNot even Republican Gov. Bob McDonnell would give U.S. Sen. Mark Warner a serious run in 2014, according to a new poll from Public Policy Polling.

Warner leads McDonnell 52 percent-42 percent among Virginia voters in an early, early look at the 2014 Senate race. At the heart of the electoral strength of the Democrat, elected in 2008, is that he is the state’s most popular politician, with 52 percent of voters approving of him and 31 percent disapproving.

McDonnell has a 48 percent approve/35 percent disapprove spread, but even that is not enough in a hypothetical one-on-one race with Warner.

Other Republicans fare far worse. Lt. Gov. Bill Bolling trails by 18 points, Congressman Eric Cantor trails by 19, and Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli trails by 21.
