A new NBC News/Wall Street Journal/Marist College poll of Virginia voters gives Democrat Barack Obama a five-point lead over Republican Mitt Romney in the presidential race, and has former governors Tim Kaine and George Allen tied in the U.S. Senate race.

Obama leads Romney by a 49 percent-44 percent margin among likely voters, and his lead among all registered voters was at seven points, at 49 percent-42 percent. The last Marist poll, done in May, had Obama ahead of Romney among registered voters by a 48 percent-44 percent margin.

Kaine, a Democrat, and Allen, a Republican, were both at 46 percent among likely voters in the recent polling. Among all registered voters, Kaine holds a slim one-point lead, 46 percent to 45 percent. The May Marist poll had Kaine ahead among registered voters by six points at 49 percent-43 percent.
