No charges will be placed in the Dec. 8 accident involving a Waynesboro First Aid Crew rescue vehicle that struck an SUV as it was proceeding to an emergency call.

A joint investigation of the accident by the Waynesboro Police Department and the Virginia State Police concluded that Karen Green, 56, drove her Nissan Sentra through a red light at the intersection of Broad Street and Wayne Avenue moments before the emergency vehicle made its way through the intersection on a green light.

Green died as a result of injuries sustained in the crash. A 13-year-old male passenger in her vehicle was injured, as was the 26-year-old driver of the First Aid Crew vehicle.

The investigation concluded that the emergency vehicle was operating at a reasonable speed at the time of the crash, and that emergency-signaling equipment on the traffic signals at the intersection was also operating properly.
