The Office of Intermodal Planning and Investment, the Virginia Department of Transportation and the Department of Rail and Public Transportation are developing a plan to study the entire length of the Interstate 81 corridor in the Commonwealth of Virginia.

Gov. Ralph Northam on Tuesday signed into law SB 971, which directs the Commonwealth Transportation Board to develop and adopt an Interstate 81 Corridor Improvement plan and evaluate financing options for Interstate 81 corridor improvements.

Motorists should expect significant traffic delays through the Easter holiday weekend on northbound Interstate 81 in Frederick County due to emergency bridge work in West Virginia.

The Park & Ride lot along Route 257 (Friedens Church Road) in Rockingham County is scheduled to close from 8 p.m. Tuesday, March 6, through 6 p.m. Wednesday, March 7. The 38-space lot is located just west of the Interstate 81 interchange at exit 240 in the Mount Crawford area.

VDOT has scheduled overnight pavement repairs on portions of Interstate 64 and Interstate 81 in Rockbridge County during the night of October 18-19.

Paving work will be done on the nights of August 11 and August 13 on the westbound deceleration ramp on Interstate 64 at exit 21.

Pavement work will require closures along Interstate 81 in Frederick County during the early morning hours of Friday and Saturday.

Several Interstate 81 paving projects in the northern Shenandoah Valley will have weekend nighttime work July 7 – 9.

Alternating lane closures are scheduled during overnight hours next week on Interstate 81 northbound and southbound in Frederick County.
