Harrisonburg swept the regular-season series with Waynesboro. The Generals swept the series that mattered. A two-out, two-run single by Kevin Fagan lifted Waynesboro to an improbable 4-3 win over the Harrisonburg Turks Monday night in Waynesboro. The victory gave the Generals a two-game playoff-series sweep over the Turks, the 2013 regular-season champs, who had outscored Waynesboro 44-14 in the six-game regular-season series sweep.

The following is a list of highway work that might affect traffic in the Staunton VDOT transportation district during the coming weeks. The Staunton district is comprised of 11 counties, Alleghany, Bath, Rockbridge, Augusta, Highland, Rockingham, Shenandoah, Frederick, Page, Warren and Clarke.

Waynesboro scored three runs in the first and never looked back, clinching a 2013 Valley League playoff spot with a 5-0 win at Rockbridge Wednesday night.

Powered by a grand slam from sophomore shortstop Tyler Duke(Troutville, Va./James River) and solid hitting from the entire lineup, the James Madison baseball team defeated Hofstra 10-6 to complete the three-game sweep and open conference play undefeated. The Dukes moved to 9-6 on the season while the Pride fell to 3-11.

Junior third baseman Ty McFarland (Bridgewater, Va./Turner Ashby) hit a walk-off sacrifice fly in game one and the Dukes pounded out 18 hits in game two as the James Madison baseball team earned a doubleheader sweep over Hofstra at Veterans Memorial Park, Saturday. JMU won its Colonial Athletic Association opener 12-11, before taking game two, 18-13.

The James Madison University baseball team used quality pitching and a solid offensive attack to sweep a doubleheader from visiting Hartford, 10-2 and 6-2, March 2. With the wins, JMU improved to 5-6 overall, while the Hawks fell to 0-7.

Senior guard Tarik Hislop (Silver Spring, Md./Paint Branch) hit a 3-pointer with 2.9 seconds left to boost James Madison (8-7, 1-1) to a 68-65 win over Northeastern (9-5, 2-1) in Colonial Athletic Association women’s basketball Sunday afternoon at the JMU Convocation Center.
