Olympic gold medalist joins museum’s Science After Dark

science museumThe Science Museum of Virginia is celebrating the Olympic Games during Science After Dark on Friday, August 19. Guests will meet three-time Olympic gold medalist swimmer Jeff Rouse, and compete in the Museum’s Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) Olympics.

The first 250 guests to complete all five STEM Olympic challenges receive a special prize and a place in the winner’s circle. Tasks include racing on the 10-meter Speed Sprint Track, testing precision in catapult pong and challenging participants’ ingenuity and innovation in hands-on competitions. Other activities include exploring three floors of interactives exhibits and joining a team-based trivia tournament.

Science After Dark guests are also invited to step into The Dome theater for two all-live Cosmic Expeditions featuring special guest and USA Olympic Swimmer Jeff Rouse. The back-to-back astronomy features breaking space news, a look at motion on Earth versus in space and a round of audience trivia. After the shows, guests will get a chance to meet the former Olympian and stick around for a special screening of the classic movie, Adventures in Babysitting, at 8 pm.

Science After Dark is a monthly evening event held on the third Friday of the month at the Science Museum of Virginia. The next Science After Dark will be held on Friday, September 16 featuring a showing of the classic movie, Apollo 13,and the chance to disassemble objects to find out how our favorite toys and devices are created.

 

Science After Dark admission is $10. Museum members enjoy free exhibit admission, $5 or Dome pass for Cosmic Expedition or Movie. Advance reservations are recommended, please call 804.864.1400 to reserve your seats.
