ODU football coach Bobby Wilder announced on Friday that Ulrick Edmonds will join the Monarch staff as linebackers coach.

Coach Edmonds has a reputation in college football as an outstanding recruiter and coach. I am confident he will do a great job developing our young linebacker group,” Wilder said. “A Virginia native, he has a solid reputation with the high school coaches around the state as well as throughout the Mid-Atlantic region which will be a great asset in his recruiting efforts.”

Edmonds comes to Old Dominion after serving as an assistant coach at James Madison from 2004-13.  Edmonds had experience coaching the tight ends, running backs and was the Dukes’ recruiting coordinator.

During his tenure at JMU, Edmonds coached eight all-conference running backs and helped lead the Dukes to the playoffs five times, including the winning the 2004 FCS National Championship.  He also assisted heavily on special teams, working specifically with the kickoff return, extra point/field goal and punt return team, which produced a first-team All-CAA punt returner.

A four-year letterman at JMU, Edmonds recorded 154 tackles and 6.5 sacks playing on the Dukes’ defensive line.  He was a two-time All-Atlantic 10 performer and 62 tackles and three sacks on the 1999 JMU team that advanced to the FCS playoffs.

Edmonds was an All-State and First-Team All-Conference linebacker at Nottoway High School as well as a two-time All-District honoree on offense and defense.
