“We are thrilled to announce this home and home series with the University of North Carolina. This falls in line with our scheduling goal of playing home and home series with ACC opponents for our future non-conference schedule,” Wilder said. “We will continue to pursue ACC teams that want to schedule future games with Old Dominion University.”

North Carolina will be the second Power Five conference school to play the Monarchs in Norfolk, as NC State visits ODU this year on Sept. 19.

UNC is coached by fourth year head coach Larry Fedora. The Tar Heels are coming off of a 6-7 season in 2014 and a berth in the Quick Lane Bowl against Rutgers.

The Tar Heels have been to six bowl games in the last seven years and have produced 21 draft picks since 2011, including five first rounders with the most recent Eric Ebron by the Detroit Lions in 2014.

“We are very pleased to add another attractive ACC opponent to our future non-conference football schedule. The home-and-home versus UNC I believe will be very well received by our fan base and add considerable value to our season ticket package,” Selig said. “Additionally, I know from experience the rabid Tar Heel fan base throughout Hampton Roads and I feel certain the Carolina contingent will contribute to the electric atmosphere that defines S. B. Ballard Stadium.”

This will be the second meeting between the schools. North Carolina won the first meeting in 2013 in Chapel Hill during ODU’s transition season to FBS.

UNC will be the fourth ACC team to agree to play at Old Dominion, joining NC State, Virginia Tech and Wake Forest.
