A new chapel designed on the theme of Noah’s Ark has been built at Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church, and will be dedicated on Sunday, April 11.

Local designer Joan Huiner Ranzini designed the space using materials and details reminiscent of the 1950s historic building. A retro look and custom furnishings create an exciting new worship area.

When architect Milton Grigg designed the handsome Mid-Century Modern stone church at 500 S. Wayne Ave., he used the story of Noah’s Ark to inspire his design. Imaginative visitors can see how the building is shaped like a boat, complete with stained glass portholes along its sides.

Fifty years later, Ranzini, a congregation member, artist and architectural designer, has expanded this theme with her design for a new chapel at Grace.

The congregation will celebrate the completion of the chapel with a dedication ceremony on Sunday during the 10 a.m. worship service.

A refreshment hour will follow. Visitors are welcome, and warmly invited to attend.
