Nighttime lane closures on Interstate 81 in Augusta County July 19-24

i81-headerPaving operations will take place on northbound Interstate 81 between exit 227 and the Middle River Bridge and at the ramps at exit 227, exit 235 and the rest area at mile marker 233 in Augusta County.  The acceleration and deceleration ramps will be paved at all of these locations for I-81 northbound. I-81 will have single lane and ramp closures at these locations.

Nighttime work begins Sunday, July 19, 10 p.m. to 7 a.m. the following morning and continues through Thursday, July 24, nightly from 8 p.m. to 7 a.m. the following morning. The rest area at mile marker 233 will be closed one night during this period for paving of on- and off-ramps.

The following detours will be in place during active work zone hours, reopening each morning at 7 a.m.

Route 612 to Exit 227 northbound detour
Travelers on Route 612 (Laurel Hill Road) wishing to access I-81 northbound at exit 227 will be detoured to I-81 exit 225 off of Route 262. Route 612 traffic will turn left onto Route 11 to Route 262. At Route 262, travelers will turn left and proceed to the I-81 interchange.

Exit 235 northbound to Route 256 detour
Travelers on I-81 northbound wishing to access Route 256 (Weyers Cave Road) at exit 235 will be detoured northbound to I-81 exit 240 at Route 257/Route 682 (Friedens Church Road). Motorists will go to the exit 240 off-ramp, turn left, cross the overpass over I-81 and turn left onto the I-81 southbound on-ramp and proceed to exit 235.

Signs and message boards will be in place to alert the motorists of detours.

Estimated completion date is August 14.  All work is weather permitting.
