New England blasts Washington, 27-10

redskins-helmet1The Washington Redskins looked at Sunday’s game at unbeaten New England as a measuring stick for where they are. At the midway point of the 2015 season, the ‘Skins don’t measure up.

The Patriots improved to 8-0 with an easy 27-10 win over Washington on Sunday. New England racked up 460 yards of total offense and kept the Redskins (3-5) out of the end zone until the final minute.

Washington was dominated in every statistical category – gaining 250 yards, getting outgained on the ground 161-37, and possessing the ball for just 22:55.

New England went up 14-0 in the first quarter on an 8-yard touchdown pass from Tom Brady to Julian Edelman and a 5-yard TD run by LaGarrette Blount.

It was 17-3 at the half after Stephen Gostkowski and Dustin Hopkins traded field goals. A 21-yard Gostkowski field goal with 7:32 left in the third made it 20-3 Patriots, and a Brady 18-yard TD pass to Brandon Bolden capped a 14-play, 88-yard drive to make it 27-3 with 11:28 left.

Kirk Cousins connected with Jordan Reed on a 3-yard TD pass with 25 seconds left to finish out the scoring.

Cousins finished 22-of-40 passing for 217 yards, a touchdown and an interception. Matt Jones had 27 yards rushing on 11 carries.

Pierre Garcon had four catches on eight targets for 70 yards.

Brady was 26-for-39 passing for 299 yards, two touchdowns and an interception. Blount ran for 129 yards on 29 carries.
