The National Jazz Workshop will hold its tenth week-long camp at Shenandoah Conservatory from Sunday, July 15, through Friday, July 20.
The event welcomes approximately 100 high school and adult participants to Winchester, where they perform in big bands, and attend music theory and improvisation courses, masterclasses and jam sessions.
Concert highlights will include the National Jazz Workshop All Stars Jazz Orchestra at 7 p.m. on Sunday, July 15; The United States Air Force Airmen of Note at 7 p.m. on Monday, July 16; Duo Madness featuring NJW faculty duos at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday, July 17; The United States Army Band “Swamp Romp” at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, July 17; The Dixie Power Trio at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday, July 18; The Alan Baylock Jazz Orchestra at 7 p.m. on Thursday, July 19; and the participant concerts at 1 p.m. on Friday, July 20. All performances are free and open to the public and take place in Armstrong Concert Hall on the main campus of Shenandoah University.
Adjunct Associate Professor of Classical and Jazz Trombone Matt Niess, D.M.A., serves as director of the workshop and Harrison Endowed Chair in Piano; Associate Professor of Jazz Piano and Director of Jazz Studies Robert Larson, D.M.A., serves as the host.

Shenandoah Conservatory is home to more than 700 students enrolled in baccalaureate, master’s and doctoral programs in the areas of music, theatre and dance.
