A mother and her boyfriend are in custody on charges related to the abuse of a 6-year-old child in Augusta County.
Cecilia Leigh Burnette, 34, and Theodore Manna Jr., 32, face charges of malicious wounding.
The Augusta County Sheriff’s Office was notified on June 24 of a child abuse incident that had reportedly taken place at a residence on Maine Circle in Staunton.
Burnette is the victim’s mother, according to law enforcement.
Investigators were able to determine that the child had been assaulted numerous times over the past two weeks and was in need of major medical attention. The child was subsequently airlifted to the University of Virginia hospital, where he is still receiving medical care at this time.
