The June 16 installment of The Gateway’s Mojo Saturday Night, the monthly blues show hosted by Kevin Chisnell, features blues journeyman Jack Roy, The Lascivious Deacons and blues piano master Roddy Barnes.
Mojo Saturday Night debuted in September of 2011, and the shows have had highly acclaimed reviews with the likes of the Li’l Bill Band, Lisa Miller, Barbara Martin, Fatty Lumpkin and the Love Hogs and Virginia Beach’s award winning artist, Narissa Bond. “We’ve had a couple of close to full houses, but I want to pack The Gateway,” Chisnell muses.
The Gateway, at 329 W. Main St in Waynesboro, is the live performance space until The Wayne opens. “If we’re going to have an opportunity to have quality, live blues in this beautiful theater in the next year or so, we need to support it,” Chisnell says.
On June 16, the show will be a barn burner.
“Roddy Barnes is the type of musician/entertainer that comes to this area only once in a blue moon”, he says. “He has been all over the world, played with world class musicians, while working as the pianist for The Uppity Blues Women, quite an exclusive gig.”

Jack Roy, Hill Country blues guitarist, with Kevin Chisnell on harp, will open the show with some rousing traditional blues, followed by The Lascivious Deacons, a dynamic blues duo from Staunton, supporting their recent CD release, “Undemultigated Shebacle.”
It’s a night of blues you don’t want to miss.
