Mobile Information Station in SAW and HR Kicked Off This Week

The Staunton-Augusta-Waynesboro and Harrisonburg-Rockingham expansion of the Mobile Information Station (MIS) took off for real this week, and it has been very encouraging.

mis-mobileThe first site visit was scheduled for Tuesday at the Grottoes United Methodist Church and it was no surprise that no one came out on the coldest day of the year for it. Despite this, Outreach Specialist Kathryn Coit was told while delivering promotional materials throughout the community that the pastor had gone to the library specifically to thank the librarian for referring MIS to the UMC, because this is exactly the kind of thing his church wants to provide.

Also a post office employee asked if she could get information next month for her mother who may be moving to the area soon, and the librarian highly complimented the appearance and readability of our schedule posters.

Coit spent a few hours Wednesday at a Harrisonburg Goodwill store and again on Thursday at the Staunton Goodwill store. These visits have led to the scheduling of three SNAP pre-screenings or applications. A surprise benefit of the mini-MIS sites at the stores were three individuals who would like to volunteer at one of the Senior Centers!
