MLB Roundup: O’s win, Nats tumble

baltimore oriolesAn eighth-inning Manny Machado RBI double lifted Baltimore to a 3-2 win over Toronto on Thursday.

Machado was 2-for-5 at the plate, extending his season-opening hitting streak to 14 games.

The Orioles (10-4) also got three hits from leadoff hitter Joey Rickard.

Starting pitcher Chris Tillman gave up two runs on four hits in six innings of work. Reliever Darren O’Day (1-0, 0.00 ERA) got the win with a scoreless inning of relief.

Bryce Harper hit his eighth homer, but that was it for Washington in a 5-1 loss at Miami on Thursday.

Tom Koehler (1-2, 4.80 ERA) and three Marlins relievers held the Nationals (11-4) to two hits.

Max Scherzer (2-1, 4.32 ERA) took a beating in the loss, giving up five runs on eight hits in five innings of work.
