MLB Notebook: Washington, Baltimore get Thursday wins

nationals_logoStreaking Nats blank Atlanta Braves, 7-0: Doug Fister pitched seven scoreless innings, and the streaking Nats blanked the Atlanta Braves, 7-0, Thursday at Nationals Park.

Fister (3-3) gave up four hits and walked one, striking out four, in his stint on the mound. Ian Desmond hit his sixth homer of the year, a two-run shot in the third off Atlanta starter Matt Wisler (1-3).

Washington (40-33) has a three and a half game lead on the New York Mets in the National League East.

 

lgo_mlb_baltimore_oriolesOrioles top Red Sox, 8-6: Matt Wieters hit his third homer, and Miguel Gonzalez got his sixth win of the season in an 8-6 Baltimore victory over the Boston Red Sox on Thursday.

Gonzalez (6-4) gave up four runs on eight hits in eight innings of work, striking out four and walking none.

Zach Britton notched his 21st save of the season.
