Middle Tennessee takes down ODU Lady Monarchs, 65-48

odu logoIn the fourth ever meeting between the Old Dominion women’s basketball team (10-7, 3-3) and Middle Tennessee (11-5, 5-1), it was the Blue Raiders who took down ODU by a score of 65-48 at the Constant Center on Thursdaynight.

Olivia Jones led all scorers with 24 points to go along with eight rebounds, while Cheyenne Parker followed with 12 points, 13 rebounds and nine blocks. Brea Edwards chipped in 11 points.

Odegua Oigbokie tied career high of 12 points and hauled down five rebounds to lead the way for the Lady Monarchs on Thursday night. Freshman Ashley Jackson poured in a career high of 11 points (5-6 FG) and grabbed four rebounds, while Jennie Simms followed with eight points and six rebounds.

After trailing 9-0, the Lady Monarchs went on a 6-0 run over a 4:50 span to bring the score to 9-6 with 10:01 remaining in the opening half. MT answered on a 10-0 run over a 2:41 span to take a 19-6 advantage with 7:22 remaining in the first half.

Old Dominion trimmed Middle Tennessee’s lead down to 10 points at halftime, as the Blue Raiders led 29-19 heading into the locker rooms behind a half-high 13 points from Olivia Jones. MT’s Cheyenne Parker followed with five points, eight rebounds and five blocks.

Odegua Oigbokie led the Lady Monarchs in the first half with eight points and three rebounds. Old Dominion shot 8-32 (25%) from the floor, 0-8 (0%) from three and 3-5 (60%) from the free-throw line. Middle Tennessee connected on 10-27 (37%) from the floor, 4-14 (28.6%) from deep and 5-11 (45.5%) from the FT line.

An Brea Edwards three-pointer capped off an 11-2 Blue Raider run to start the second half, giving Middle Tennessee a 40-21 lead with 15:05 remaining in regulation.

After trailing by as many as 19, Tiffany Minor drilled a three-pointer to bring the Lady Monarchs within 11 points, 47-36, with9:04 to play in the second half. The Blue Raiders answered on a 13-3 run, stretching its advantage to 60-39 with 4:20 remaining in regulation, before claiming a 65-48 victory over the Lady Monarchs on Thursday night at the Ted.

For the game, Old Dominion hit 30.6% (19-62) of their shot attempts, 7.7% (1-13) from downtown and 64.3% (9-14) from the charity stripe. Middle Tennessee shot 39.1% (25-64) from the floor, 28.1% (9-32) from three and 35.3% (6-17) from the free-throw line.

Old Dominion will remain at home for a Conference USA showdown against UAB on Sat. Jan. 24 with tipoff slated for 2:00 p.m.Saturday’s contest will also mark Military Appreciation and Alumni Night at the Ted Constant Center.
