Miami tops Virginia Tech, 30-20

vatechVirginia Tech couldn’t overcome four turnovers, including three interceptions, in a dispirting 30-20 loss at Miami on Saturday in ACC football action.

Brenden Motley threw two picks, and Michael Brewer, in his first action since going down in the season opener, also threw an interception, while Miami sophomore QB Brad Kaaya had a clean, efficient game for the ‘Canes, going 19-for-30 passing for 296 yards and two touchdowns.

The second Kaaya TD pass was a backbreaker, coming at the end of a nine-play, 75-yard drive that saw Miami eat 4:36 off the clock before Kaaya connected with Rashawn Scott on a 2-yard touchdown pass that pushed the lead to 10 with 2:44 to play.

UM (4-2, 1-1 ACC) led 20-13 at the half after the other Kaaya-to-Scott TD pass with four seconds left in the second quarter.

A Michael Badgley 21-yard field goal pushed the Hurricanes’ lead to 23-13 with 58 seconds left in the third quarter.

Brewer connected with Isaiah Ford on a 33-yard TD pass with 7:20 to go in the fourth to get Virginia Tech (3-4, 1-2 ACC) within 23-20.
