Virginia-George Washington Series
Virginia is 4-0 all-time against George Washington as the schools play Tuesday for the first time since 2009. The Cavaliers scored a 2-1 overtime win over the Colonials on Sept. 22, 2009, with Neil Barlow scoring the golden goal two minutes into extra time. This marks just the second time UVa and GW have met in the last 20 years.

Cavaliers Suffer First Defeat at Notre Dame, 3-1
Virginia suffered its first defeat of the 2015 season on Friday, falling 3-1 at No. 14 Notre Dame. UVa had its 12-match unbeaten streak snapped, dating to its 2014 NCAA Tournament run.

Todd Wharton scored in the 79th minute on a penalty kick. The Cavaliers played with just 10 men for the final 20 minutes after Riggs Lennon was sent off after being shown a red card. Notre Dame out-shot Virginia, 13-5, and put seven shots on goal to three for UVa. The Fighting Irish won six corners to two for the Cavaliers.

UVa Scoreless Streak Snapped
Virginia had not allowed a goal in more than three matches before conceding late in the first half at Notre Dame. When ND’s Mark Gormley scored in the 36th minute, it marked the first goal UVa had allowed in more than three matches, totaling just over 338 minutes. UVa shut out James Madison, NC State and VCU in consecutive games prior to the Notre Dame match.

Busy Stretch Continues
Virginia is in the midst of a challenging portion of its schedule. The Cavaliers are playing 13 matches in 43 days, with midweek games during six straight weeks. UVa does not get a full week off until a seven-day break between matches against Pitt (Oct. 16) and Virginia Tech (Oct. 23).

Noting George Washington
GW throttled Robert Morris, 4-1, Friday afternoon in Washington, D.C., to up its record to 3-5. The Colonials scored four times in the first 26 minutes. Garrett Heine has scored a team-high five goals, including all three of the Colonials’ game winners. GW alum Craig Jones is currently in his fourth season at the helm of the Colonials’ program.

Up Next: Louisville
Virginia entertains Louisville at 7 p.m. Friday in the teams’ first-ever meeting as ACC foes. UVa was the preseason favorite to win the ACC Coastal Division, while UL was picked to win the Atlantic Division.

Friday is Youth Soccer Night at Klöckner Stadium. All youth soccer teams, family and friends can purchase tickets for $4 (tickets must be purchased in advance). The SOCA team with the highest attendance will receive free admission and a pizza party to a future soccer match.

Friday is also Cavman’s Crew Night. The first 100 Cavman’s Crew members will receive a voucher for a make-your-own-sundae from Ben & Jerry’s.
