Preseason ACC Favorites Meet
Virginia and Louisville were selected as the preseason ACC favorites by the league’s coaches. UVa was tabbed as the Coastal Division favorite, while UofL was voted the Atlantic Division favorite.

UVa Scoreless Streak Snapped
Virginia had not allowed a goal in more than three matches before conceding late in the first half at Notre Dame. When ND’s Mark Gormley scored in the 36th minute, it marked the first goal UVa had allowed in more than three matches, totaling just over 338 minutes. UVa shut out James Madison, NC State and VCU in consecutive games prior to the Notre Dame match.

Noting Louisville
The Cardinals are 4-3-3 after suffering a 1-0 loss at Ohio State on Tuesday evening. Tate Schmitt leads the team with six goals. The Cardinals return All-ACC First Team midfielder Ben Strong as well as All-ACC Second Team defender Tim Kubel from last year’s team, which advanced to the ACC Championship title match and reached the NCAA Sweet 16 for the fourth time in five seasons.

Up Next: Portland (Monday)
Virginia has a short turnaround after its Friday match as it plays host to Portland at 7 p.m. Monday (Oct. 5) at Klöckner Stadium. It marks just the third-ever meeting between the two programs. The Pilots play at Longwood on Thursday.
