The Campbell University men’s soccer team broke open a close game with five second-half goals Wednesday to defeat visiting VMI 6-0 in non-conference action.
Campbell scored 4:15 into the contest, as Gabe Parrish knocked in a rebound from Thibaut Jacquel. VMI keeper Broden Schull made five saves before intermission to keep it a one-goal game.
The Camels were awarded a penalty kick in the 55th minute of play, and Bastien Oberli converted to push the lead to 2-0. JJ Donnelly followed seven minutes later on a double assist from Jacquel and Oberli. VMI had a quality chance to find the back of the net with 70:07 on the game clock, but Justin Riescher’s attempt from the box was just a foot wide of going in the top right hand corner of the goal. Campbell added three scores in the final 12:03 of play.
