Gov. Bob McDonnell on Monday announced a leadership contribution of $100,000 to the Virginia Public Safety Foundation from Motorola Solutions Foundation, benefiting construction of the Commonwealth Public Safety Memorial. The memorial will be Virginia’s monument to nearly 750 public safety heroes killed in the line of duty and the 165,000 public safety officers serving Virginians every day.

“Motorola Solutions Foundation has again demonstrated its strong commitment to Virginia’s public safety community and safety education,” said Governor McDonnell. “I hope that this contribution—the largest so far from any person or organization to the Memorial Fund—signals to other Virginia businesses and organizations the value of this important, lasting tribute to our brave heroes who made the ultimate sacrifice for their community.”

“Motorola Solutions is dedicated to helping people be their best in the moments that matter,” said Matt Blakely, director of the Motorola Solutions Foundation. “Motorola Solutions Foundation aligns itself with this mission by supporting programs like the Commonwealth Public Safety Memorial and Virginia Public Safety Foundation that train people how to respond to potential safety problems or recover from the loss of a first responder. We are proud to see these valuable programs make a positive impact in Virginia.”

The Motorola Solutions Foundation provides grants around the world with an emphasis on programming in communities where Motorola Solutions has a significant presence. For 84 years, Motorola has worked side-by-side with law enforcement to develop the solutions that support its mission. Since 2007, the foundation has provided over $25M in grants to public safety organizations in the U.S and Canada.
