The road to the Governor’s Mansion begins … here.
The Augusta Free Press and the Waynesboro Democratic Committee are teaming up to bring the candidates for the 2009 Democratic Party gubernatorial nomination to Waynesboro, and the first event on the road to the ’09 party primary is tonight at 7 p.m. at Lynn’s Pancake and Steak House, 2105 W. Main St., Waynesboro.

Former Democratic National Committee chair Terry McAuliffe will be on hand to meet with Waynesboro, Staunton and Augusta residents at the event. Those attending can also eat dinner at Lynn’s. A $9.95 buffet is available. You do not have to purchase the dinner to take part in the event.

McAuliffe is in the process of exploring a possible run for the Democratic Party nomination to run for governor. The Northern Virginia resident has filed paperwork related to a possible candidacy.

There are already two announced candidates in the Democratic Party race – Bath County State Sen. Creigh Deeds and Northern Virginia State Del. Brian Moran.

Attorney General Bob McDonnell is the presumptive frontrunner for the Republican Party nomination.
