Contributors

eurydiceThe Mary Baldwin College theatre season returns this month with Eurydice, written by Tony Award nominee Sarah Ruhl.

Director and former American Shakespeare Center actress Doreen Bechtol brings language to life with her extensive background in movement training and dance. Eurydice runs February 17th-20th at 7:30pm and February 21st at 2:00pm.

Set in a dream-like world of poetry, this play explores the other side of the Orpheus and Eurydice’s famous love story. Follow Eurydice into a strange, stone underworld where she reunites with her long lost Father. These moments of heartwarming reconciliation are intercut with scenes from the upper world, where Orpheus struggles with his grief, determined to find Eurydice again. Through heartbreak and memory, audiences will fall in love with Ruhl’s charming heroine.

The title character of Eurydice is played by Mary Baldwin undergraduate Layla Teears with well-known local theatre artist, Thadd McQuade, as her Father. Will Campbell returns to the Mary Baldwin stage as the musician Orpheus along with first year MLitt Chad Marriott playing The Nasty Interesting Man. Stones in the underworld are played by Myra Diehl, Jasmine Duran, Melissa Fulton, Emily Hurst, Kim Greenawalt, Marianna Moynihan, Elizabeth Van Doren, Lydia Wossum-Fisher, and Mary Ruth Wossum-Fisher. Sarah Wykowski portrays the mysterious Bellhop.

All shows will run in Fletcher Collins Theatre in Murphy Deming Fine Arts Center at Mary Baldwin College. Show times are February 17th-20th at 7:30pm and February 21st at 2:00pm.
