MSG Group 150dpi copy 1The Court Square Theater’s Commonwealth One Credit Union Music Series continues on Saturday, September 12 with a lively concert of traditional blues featuring M.S.G. – The Acoustic Blues Trio and local performer, Bobby Driver.

M.S.G. – The Acoustic Blues Trio performs traditional Piedmont blues, influenced by the likes of Archie Edwards, Etta Baker, and Cephas & Wiggins. This band can raise the roof with some old-fashioned house party tunes, make you laugh with their witty originals and make you weep with blues ballads! They each perform with the Archie Edwards Blues Heritage Foundation Band and have performed at numerous regional festivals, including: Richmond Folk Festival, Bristol Rhythm & Roots Reunion, Smithsonian Folklife Festival, Artscape, and Bayou Boogaloo. They have also had the honor of performing on the Kennedy Center’s Millennium Stage.

Based in the Shenandoah Valley, Bobby Driver has been a blues performer and instructor for the past forty years. His music education began in the 1970’s when he had the privilege to play informally with traditional bluesmen such as John Jackson, Clarence “Gatemouth” Brown and Buddy Moss in their homes or at festivals. He has performed with artists such as Jorma Kaukonen, Roy Bookbinder, Duck Baker, John Hartford, Reverend Billy Wirtz, Catfish Hodge and many others. In the past two years, Bobby has released two recording projects: Woven Wires, which is an instrumental collection of old-time country guitar duets; and Bad Feet and Battered Souls, which is a collection of original blues and interpretations of Piedmont classics.
