Local author marks latest release with book signing

staunton2editsBook-signing on Saturday, September 6, 2-4 p.m., at Bookworks in Staunton with author Paul Klein, whose latest book is Unusual Suspects: Four Stories of Suspicion, Suspense and Murder.

A government agent ends up face down in the woods behind his mountain hideaway. In a small, quaint town a minister leads his congregation in more than worship and prayer. An honest man perpetrates a criminal act, and then buries all the evidence. A terrorist with a diabolical plot finds himself up against an unusual and formidable foe.

When death is suspicious … when those who cause it don’t fit any pattern or profile … you can’t just round up the usual suspects. The answer to “who” lies in finding out “why,” and that can lead to unexpected results. The perpetrators in these four stories are unusual for different reasons – history, opportunity and circumstance all play a part in violent death, planned or accidental.

About the author:  Paul Klein sold his first scripts while still a student at American University in Washington, D.C. That was the beginning of a successful career as a writer/producer of informational and educational films. He wrote and produced his last script in 2003, for the Corporation for Public Broadcasting. In between were hundreds of produced filmscripts about industry, art, politics, religion, science and medicine. Paul and his wife have lived in Highland County for the past 20 years or so, the 1st of 3 generations of his family that call the Valley home. He has continued writing, focusing on fiction and personal essays — Accidents of Time and Place, a novel published in 2007, was a Library of Virginia nominee … and Mixed Freight: Checking Life’s Baggage is a collection of essays published in 2010. “Stories of suspense have always drawn me, and writing them, exposing characters when they are most vulnerable, is a challenge. There is no sharper focus on a person than when there is a threat to life,” says the author.
