lime kiln theaterLime Kiln Theater has announced a pair of theatrical productions for its Summer 2018 season. Lynchburg’s Endstation Theatre will present William Shakespeare’s As You Like It on Sunday, July 8, and the Traveling Players Ensemble will return to Lime Kiln with a family-friendly performance of Sleeping Beauty on Saturday, Aug. 11.

Tickets are on sale for both events now.

Endstation Theatre Company has defined professional theater in Central Virginia for over a decade. Founded in 2006 by Florida State University School of Theatre MFA graduates Geoffrey Kershner and Krista Franco, Endstation took up residency at Sweet Briar College. The company moved its residency to Randolph College in 2016. Every Endstation production has a strong visual and conceptual aesthetic due to the strengths and interests of its company members. This year’s performance marks Endstation’s second visit to Lime Kiln, after the company presented The Complete History of America (Abridged) in 2017.

The magic of the forest brings young lovers together… while confusing everyone else. Shakespeare’s classic comedy As You Like It gets back to nature in true Endstation fashion, by marrying the natural beauty of Virginia with the poetic beauty of the theater. Escaping from their hostile family, Rosalind and her best friend Celia leave civilization for the fabled Forest of Arden. Dressed as brother and sister, with their trusted friend the fool as their only companion, they encounter a handsome wrestler, a banished outlaw and his merry men, and the true ruler of the forest… a king with his own antlers. As Rosalind transforms into a young shepherd, she teaches Orlando – and us – how to fall in love in the way only Shakespeare can – with quick minds, sharp tongues, and pounding hearts.

Tickets for As You Like It run from $20-25 and are available at www.limekilntheater.org or www.endstationtheatre.org. The July 8 performance starts at 7:30 p.m., with doors opening at 6:30.

Selected as a “Summer School in the Arts” by the NEA, Traveling Players Ensemble is a not-for-profit professional theater company in the Washington, D.C. area, dedicated to bringing great theater into the great outdoors through a thriving summer camp and year-round acting classes and workshops. The ensemble will be returning to Lime Kiln Theater for the fifth straight summer.

Lime Kiln welcomes back the Traveling Players for a family-friendly performance of Sleeping Beauty, an original adaptation of the classic fairy tale, using masks, acrobatics, and physical comedy. When a fairy is left off the guest list of a princess’ birthday party, she curses the young princess out of spite. Can the other fairies, the king and queen, and a dashing (he thinks) prince break the curse… or will she sleep forever?

Advance tickets for Sleeping Beauty are $7 and are on sale now at www.limekilntheater.org. Tickets will be $10 at the door, with cash, Visa, MasterCard and Discover all accepted. Admission for children 3 and under is free. The Aug. 11 performance begins at 7:30 p.m., and doors open at 6:30.

Lime Kiln Arts, Inc. is a non-profit (501c3), operating at Lime Kiln Theater in Lexington. It opened in 1984 and is rooted in and inspired by the magic of a natural, outdoor theater. After a brief hiatus that started in 2012, Lime Kiln Theater is thrilled to begin its fifth straight summer season of live music and theater featuring local, regional and national acts.
