liberty basketballLiberty basketball has added Keenan Gumbs to its 2018 signing class. Gumbs is a 6-5 graduate transfer from Schreiner University and will have one year of eligibility left.

“Keenan represents everything we are about as a program,” head coach Ritchie McKay said. “Keenan is a wonderful addition and his work ethic, ability and teamship will add instant value to our program.”

Gumbs spent four years at Schreiner University, a Division III school, playing for head coach Connor Kuykendall. Gumbs proved to be one of the best players in the country at the Division III level averaging 21 points, seven rebounds and three assists per game in his final season. In 2018 Gumbs was the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) Player of the Year and Tournament MVP. Gumbs was recognized as one of the best players in Division III this past season as he was selected as an NABC Third Team All-American and a NABC First Team All-South Region selection. As a three-year captain and two-year starter, Gumbs was a two-time First Team All-SCAC honoree in his final two seasons at Schreiner.

Not only was Gumbs successful on the court playing at Schreiner but also in the classroom. He was selected as a CoSIDA Third Team Academic All-American and a CoSIDA First Team Academic All-District selection. Currently at Schreiner, Gumbs holds a 3.7 grade point average. A native of Cibola, Texas, Gumbs attended high school at Byron P. Stelle II High School, playing under Lonnie Hubbard.

Gumbs is now the fourth member of Liberty’s signing class, joining Darius McGhee, Blake Preston and Josh Price.
