lynchburg hillcatsThe Lynchburg Hillcats and Lynchburg Baseball Corp. announced the signing of a new lease agreement that will keep the franchise in Lynchburg for the next 10 years, as approved by the City of Lynchburg Tuesday night.

Lynchburg City Council unanimously voted in favor of the new franchise agreement to lease City Stadium, which stipulates that $2.1 million be reinvested toward improvements to the stadium’s parking lot, playing surface, and premium seating for the 2017 season.

“Lynchburg is one of the great historical cities in Minor League Baseball. We are excited to have a long-term home for the team at Calvin Falwell Field,” said D.G. Elmore, principal owner of the Elmore Sports Group.

The City of Lynchburg fielded its first professional baseball team in 1886 and has been home to a Carolina League team since 1966.

Opening Day for the Hillcats is Thursday, April 7, at 6:30 p.m., against the Winston-Salem Dash. Season tickets are on sale now, while single-game tickets will go on sale at lynchburg-hillcats.com on March 14. New for 2016, fans can purchase Mini Plans or reserve the 3rd Base Party Deck. Call the Hillcats’ Ticket Office at 434-528-1144 for more information.
