Southbound lane on Route 29 closed south of Rio Road

route 29The right outside lane of Route 29 southbound is closed about one-quarter mile south of Rio Road while the apparent shifting of steel plates is investigated. The plates cover excavation work for a series of pipes under the roadway that are part of the storm water drainage system.

Lane-Corman, the contractor building the Route 29-Rio Road grade-separated intersection, has a crew on the scene investigating the situation to determine what repairs are needed. At this time there is no estimate of the time needed to complete repairs and reopen the lane to traffic.

Motorists traveling south on Route 29 in the vicinity of Rio Road should be alert for traffic controls ahead of the work zone and should follow directional signs to merge into the remaining lanes.
