route 29All construction work on the Route 29 Solutions projects that requires lane closures will be suspended over the Thanksgiving holiday weekend. Between noon on Wednesday, Nov. 25 and noon Monday, Nov. 30 all lanes on Route 29 in the city of Charlottesville and Albemarle County will be open to traffic. All access points to shopping centers, businesses and other private entrances will also remain open to traffic.

Motorists should remain alert as they drive through the project work zones since reduced speed limits will still be in effect. Other traffic controls, including permanent concrete barriers and reduced lane widths, also remain in place and require extra caution while driving.

Regular nighttime construction work on the Route 29 Solutions projects, including lane closures and other traffic restrictions, will resume at 9 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 30.

The Virginia Department of Transportation will suspend highway work zones during the five-day peak Thanksgiving travel period to reduce congestion on interstates and major highways. Thanksgiving is one of the busiest times for travel each year, and VDOT urges motorists to plan ahead, drive safely and take a break when needed to ensure they reach their destination safely.

You can find real-time information about traffic, incidents and congestion on Virginia roads at 511Virginia.org.Download the free mobile VDOT 511 app, or call 511. To report a road problem or get answers to your transportation questions, call VDOT’s Customer Service Center at 800-FOR-ROAD (800-367-7623) around the clock.

The contractor for the Route 29 improvement projects has established a toll-free telephone number for residents to call regarding questions or issues related to those projects. Calls to the number, 844-220-5540, will be returned by Lane-Corman Joint Venture staff within one business day.
