Steve Landes, R-Weyers Cave, Vice Chairman of the House Appropriations Committee, was joined by over 20 business leaders, including Barry DuVal, President and CEO of the Virginia Chamber of Commerce, Art Moye, Executive Vice President of the Virginia Maritime Association and Brett Vassey, President and CEO of the Virginia Manufacturers Association to discuss House Bill 858, creating the Virginia International Trade Authority.

“I’m pleased to be joined today by so many of the business leaders that create jobs in Virginia which keep our economy moving forward. Creation of the International Trade Authority will generate opportunities for small and mid-sized businesses to expand to new markets, increase international sales, and most importantly, create new jobs here in the Commonwealth,” said Landes. “A strong, diverse economy in Virginia starts with establishing new markets for our world-class goods and services. That’s why the Virginia Chamber of Commerce, the Virginia Manufacturers Association, and the Virginia Maritime Association, representing thousands of Virginia businesses, support the creation of the Virginia International Trade Authority” noted Vassey.

HB 858 has been assigned to the Agriculture, Commerce, Technology and Natural Resources Subcommittee of the House Appropriations Committee. Creation of the Virginia International Trade Authority would expand trade sales by over $1 billion by 2020. Over 100 companies have lent their support to the Landes legislation.

Landes represents the 25th House District, which includes parts of Albemarle, Augusta, and Rockingham Counties. Landes is currently serving his eleventh term in the Virginia House of Delegates.
