KrogerKroger has created 15 new jobs as the project to upgrade the Arch Avenue store location is complete, increasing employment to 90 associates.

The project features an expanded selection of natural foods, said Don Surratt, store manager.  “Our customers have been asking us to carry more natural foods and nutritious items, and we’re happy to provide them.”

The store has added two more self-checkout machines to speed up the flow for customers.  It has six traditional checkout lanes for a total of 12 checkout options.

Surratt also said the meat and deli cases have been updated, “giving them a more modern look.”

The entire store has a new interior design and new lighting, Surratt said.  “The feel is more modern, with a fresh, more colorful appearance.”

Other improvements include renovation of the restrooms, updating the vestibule and sprucing up the exterior.

“We welcome Kroger customers from the DeWitt Boulevard store and pledge to them a great shopping experience,” Surratt added.  The DeWitt Boulevard store closed last week.

The Arch Avenue Kroger includes a fuel center and is open 24 hours every day.

The store donates perishable food to the Blue Ridge Area Food Bank daily and supports local not-for-profit organizations in the community.

Kroger has been in Waynesboro since the 1920s when a store opened at 322 Main Street.  The store was moved from Short and Market Streets to 245 Arch Avenue in 1974.
