road-work-headerA short segment of Route 731 (Keswick Road) in Albemarle County will be closed for one week beginning Monday, Aug. 10 while crews replace the bridge over Carroll Creek.

The road will be closed at the bridge, which is located about 0.1 mile south of Route 22 (Louisa Road) and about 0.5 mile north of Route 744 (Hunt Club Road). Weather permitting, the bridge is expected to reopen to traffic on Friday, Aug. 14.

During the closure, motorists will be detoured west on Route 22, and then left onto Route 744, which carries traffic back to Route 731. Private entrances on both sides of the bridge will be accessible during the work.

VDOT crews will replace the existing structurally deficient timber-deck bridge, which was built in 1932, with a pre-stressed concrete slab structure and asphalt overlay. According to a 2012 traffic count, approximately 410 vehicles traverse the bridge daily.
